<br />well, from the sounds of your question, you have had more than one and now are scared of having them again. This is called Panic Disorder, and I was recently diagnosed with it myself. From my experience so far, there are a few things that have helped me to overcome them:</p>
<p>1. taking a very low dose (half of a pill) of Lexapro</p>
<p>2. doing cognitive behavioral therapy with my psychologist to try to find the root cause of my attacks and how to talk back to them</p>
<p>3. as someone else said, when you feel them come on, just let them come. The harder you try to fight them, the worse they&#8217;ll be. It&#8217;s called the acceptance paradox. Whenever I do get attacks now, the intensity is extremely lowered.</p>
<p>4. when I feel them coming on, I also do a deep, slow, relaxed breathing (breathe in as long as possible, hold as long as possible, breahe out as long as possible, hold as long as possible, breathe in as long as possible, etc.). This usually slows down my heart beat even after only a minute of doing this&#8230;it really helps!!!</p>
<p>5. find out what you&#8217;re getting scared about, write down the thoughts you&#8217;re having when you&#8217;re getting scared, and then analyze them and see how irrational they are. Here&#8217;s a good link for talking back to common thoughts during panic attacks </p>

However, sometimes if you&#8217;re on an antidepressant and you still have the panic attacks you need xanax. Xanax takes about 10-15 minutes to kick in for me and I usually take it when I first feel the drum roll of a panic attack starting.</p>
<p>One of my doctors before had also mentioned there are inhalers out there, but Zoloft in combination with Xanax has worked for me.</p>

<br />The side effects of those medications are so bad, I don&#8217;t even understand why doctors prescribe them when you can get so much nausea, headaches, and tremors from them.</p>
<p>What worked for me was using this natural &quot;One&quot; technique. I first read about it online on the website of a former panic attack sufferer (check it out in the source, her story is very uplifting). I decided to give the program she described in her story a try &#8211; I&#8217;ve never made a better decision in my life than that. I have no more problems controlling or stopping my panic attacks &#8211; in fact, I don&#8217;t even have them at all these days. Good luck to you.</p>

<br />I have the same problem as you! I only suggest seeing a therapist, they can reccomend you to some medicine, or if you dont like the idea of taking medicine they usually do excersises to help! Thats what I do. Usually breathing exercises help, (not for everyone though, it doesnt help for me..). When your nervous or anxious try inhaling normally, then when you exhale try doing it extra long then normal. Something like that. But yeah!</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>I have Generalized Anxiety Disorder and Panic Disorder and lately I&#8217;ve been having really severe panic attacks. It&#8217;s come to the point where I avoid everything. I&#8217;ve been going to therapy for almost five years now. I try to tell myself that nothing bad is going to happen to me but I just end up panicking more. I&#8217;ve also tried some abdominal breathing techniques. Any other suggestions?<br />
Thank you for your answers. Sometimes I feel like I&#8217;m the only one suffering from this but it&#8217;s really reassuring to know that others have gone through this as well.<br />
<br />I was taught by one of my nurses when I was in a nursing home last year a way to stop my panic attacks and so far it has worked for me everytime.<br />
She told me to take a slow breath in and keep breathing in through my nose as much as I could until I could take in no more air&#8230;&#8230;..then take one more breath. She said to hold it for as long as I could and then slowly let it out&#8230;.as much as I could possibly let out&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;and then let out one more breath. She told me to do this at least 8-10 times.<br />
As I said, it worked for me and I hope that it works for you.<br />
